He has made life for my senior dogs much better, and I feel he has saved their lives on more than one occasion. I would recommend him to all my friends and family unreservedly.

Comments: Horrible - this ruthless woman has pushed 3 older cats I know to the brink of their demise - very rough handling and causing undue stress. My sweet 17-year old boy went for a nail trim, she was concerned about his weight loss, so did a routine exam on him, cleaning his ears was torture for him and he remained stressed for 4 more days and refused to eat. I took him to another vet for a second opinion, and ended up putting him to sleep, things were not looking good for him. I would NEVER EVER recommend her, and I have heard the same from others.

Comments: Hi. If you're lucky enough to live in the Ottawa area, take your pet to Aylmer Veterinary Clinic across the river in Aylmer, Gatineau. Quebec Vets cost 50% less than Ontario Vets. I just found this out recently when this clinic was recommended to me. I love this place. They have treats available for cats and dogs, they weight your pet upon arrival each time you go there, they provide excellent, compassionate care and all for a fraction of the cost in Ontario. I will never go back!

Comments: NIGHTMARE! The worst place ever! I trusted them and my pet ended up brain damaged by an insulin overdose. The vet left his son, who had NO formal veterinary training, alone to care for the patients. He used the wrong syrings and gave my cat a massive overdose of insulin. Then, my cat Toonces went without any treatment for 24 hours. NO LICENSED STAFF were there from closing Saturday until the vet was called in Sunday night. The vet refuses to take responsibility for what happened to my cat. At first he admitted it but when he realized I was going to report him he started denying it. My cat never recovered. He was totally normal when he went in there, and he came out with dramatic, severe, brain damage that never went away. Comments: Dr. Boyce is good! She is diligent, hard working, thorough, and has an intuition of a good clinician. Lots of experience too! She took care of lots of my guys' routine care without incident, but what really made me value her clinical skills was the way she handled a potentially devastating disease in my cat, Fedya, whose bladder was blocked. The poor fella had to be hospitalized for several days, during which, I received updates from Dr. Boyce, even at off-hours. She discussed the treatment with me and took my concerns into consideration. The only thing I wish she would do differently is prescribe Hill's prescription foods. I also wish she would adhere to a more minimal vaccination regimen. Otherwise, I believe she is a very good vet.

Comments: One of Thomas McMichael, DVM's staff vets missed my beloved elderly cat's heart condition on an X-ray. When I confronted T. McMichael, he stated that this type of heart disease was missed because it can only be diagnosed by a cardiologist and cannot be diagnosed on an X-ray. For missing the condition, the staff vet eventually received a formal letter of censure from the vet board and attended classes "at the regional level to improve his ability to read radiographs and ultrasounds." When I confronted McMichael, however, and I made it clear that I didn't buy his explanation of the condition not being visible on an X-ray (and not being diagnosable by a regular vet), he became nasty to me and my whole family. We were all volunteers with a rescue group at the time, which had its convalescing homeless dogs boarded at his facility (for a fee). We took these dogs out for walks, spending up to 10 hours a week with them, as there are no outdoor runs at the hospital and the dogs are confined to cages 24/7. As soon as I confronted McMichael about my cat's missed diagnosis, he stopped all of us from walking these homeless dogs. After I was notified by the state board of the formal letter of censure issued to the staff vet for missing my cat's heart failure, my family and I added this information to the online reviews of the hospital. Dr. McMichael contacted some of these review sites to request that our reviews be removed. Two of the sites did, but the rest did not. To all of you victims of bad vets: keep fighting and spread the word to keep other people's pets safer. Take care of yourselves too. It's heart breaking, but taking action and educating others helps. Comments: Misdiagnosed my cat and failed to find an absess on his bum even though I continued telling them that he was having difficulty walking, and was continuously licking his behind. Sent me home with antibiotics and a $300 bill, said he had an infection of some sort. Took him back the next night because I saw a sore on his behind. A different vet looked at it, said it was an absess and the antibiotics would heal it. The next night, my cat was in so much pain and his behind was leaking blood and fluid. I decided to get a second opinion so I took him to a different animal hospital and the new vet told me my cat would require extensive surgery to lance the absess, remove dead skin around the absess, and remove the anal glands. He also said that the antibiotics would not have cured my cat. Will cost me another $700. Could have spared my cat from a lot of unnecessary testing, pain and distress if the avon vet had done a proper exam and listened to what I was telling him. When I went back to see the avon vet and tell him that he had missed the absess during his exam, he replied: "You might be right".

I was to pick him up the next day. The vet was going to discuss his diagnosis and the possible need for further testing. The morning I was to pick him up, the vet called to say that my cat had passed away that morning. The vet claimed that the cat's lungs had the possibility of tumors however she had told me the day she had only seen fluid in his lungs and couldn't tell if tumors were present as the x-rays were not clear. I believe this clinic was negligent in his care.

Comments: This clinic is only about the money they can get out of you. They DO NOT care about the animals or the pet owners and their staff have a horrible "bedside manner". I brought my cat in for a skin infection. She was given an injectable time release antibiotic and a corticosteroid shot. This was a $70 examination fee plus meds. She seemed to be better at first and then 8 days later her wounds were weeping again. I called the clinic back and they wanted me to bring my cat back. They would not waive the re-check fee. I thought this was inappropiate given the circumstances. That I had only been there 8 days earlier and paid them for an examination and office visit. I thought in "good faith" he would at least look her over again without charging me. They were suggesting at this point that my cat have a skin biopsy. I was quoted $100 for the anestetic and another $350 or so for the biopsy collection and diagnosis of cultures. I told them I could not afford this and was not given any other choice of care or advice except to perhaps apply Neosporin to my cats wounds (and that is because I brought it up). I even asked about how much it would cost to have my cat put down and after hearing the ridiculous fee for this, I said I guess I could just have my husband shoot her (to see what she would say) and she agreed and said oh yes, that is humane as well....?? - (WHAT??!!)She couldn't have cared less if I put her in a bag and threw her in the river. Anyway, after 3 days af trying to apply Neosporin to my cats RAW skin I called back and suggested that perhaps the vet could precribe an oral antibiotic. He did (at no charge, which I guess he should have given it at no charge seeing he didn't really help her in the first place)and it did dry up my cats skin only to a certain degree. (I believe they did not prescibe a proper doseage for the infection to have time to heal, knowing I would have to come back.) Not wanting to have to call the vet again I used an antibiotic topical cream prescibed to my daughter for a skin lesion once a day for a week, and guess what....it cleared right up. Maybe it was taking a chance but I knew the vet would not do anything else for her unless I paid him for another office visit. Why could he not have suggested this before...he jumped right to the biopsy...at LEAST a $450.00 proceedure...do you see what I see? Also at my dogs last check up they took it upon themselves to assume I wanted her liver checked. So they just went ahead and tacked on another $75 fee, after I was quoted the inital fee -TWICE, once on the phone, and once when I went in to pick up my dogs medication and NO ONE even mentioned checking her liver. I did not double my dogs phenobarbitol medication as the vet prescribed at her last check up and was told the other day that because I did not double her doseage as directed, they would not prescribe any more. I either had to give it to her as directed and PRE-PAY for her blood work in advance or go without. I told them I was waiting for another month - it's Chritmas time and could not afford to do it right now. They would not hear it. So now my dog is going without and I'm hoping she does not have a seizure because they would not even prescribe enough for me to PROPERLY wean her off of it. There is a real mis-communication at this clinic. Perhaps it is because the vets don't deal with the pet owners or LISTEN to them. They have their ill-mannered staff do all their dirty work. I have since changed clinics and will not return to this practice nor would I reccomend them to anyone else....this place is a joke.

I had been going to another vet who after I spent a sizable amount of cash told me he could not find anything wrong, could not help me anymore and would refer me to a speciality clinic in Calgary. I opted for another opinion here in my own town and my cat is already doing 90% better. Dr. Linnell asked me questions, had ideas about and prescribed medicine I had never heard of from other vets. He also listened to me and confirmed what I thought to be the problem with my theo. The other vet made me feel like I was some over zealous cat owner even though my cat had not been eating properly for some time. I heartily recommend this vet if you are looking for someone as a first time vet or are not happy where you currently go!

Comments: Brought my 7 year old cat in as he was extremely lethargic, and wouldn't eat, drink, or use the litter box, they immediately placed him on antibiotics, and never bothered with tests until the evening of day two from what I was told. The next morning I received a call stating that my cat had died over night, and was asked what I wanted to do as far as picking him up, or having him cremated. I told them that I would be in within a couple of hours and went about my morning coffee trying to not think about the millions of thoughts that were going through my head. About 2 hours later, I went to the vets office to pick him up, and was told that he was in surgery, I asked the girl at the desk what kind of surgery, and the girl told me that they had opted to do a feline autopsy on him to see what the problem was, and he would be ready to pick up either later in the day, or the following day. The next day I called, making sure he was ready to be picked up, and was told that he had been sent out for a second autopsy, I asked her who consented or authorized that, and she said flat out said, you did, I said no I did not, and asked to speak to one of the vets or Dr. Phil Lukert who is the Owner, and she said that they were all busy assisting others and Dr. Lukert wasn't in. 2 weeks later after I finally called, and asked if my cat was back, I was told yes, he's been here for about a week and a half and along with the cremated remains that I did not authorize came a bill of 1000.00 un-itemized, she pulled up her screen and read off the procedures done, and turns out after the in office autopsy, my cat was sent to an outsourced company for another one, and then cremated, none of which I ever authorized. A bill that should have been about $300.00 was $1000.00 and they will not remove the charges because, they were trying to cover up their own screw-ups, and desire to perform experimental surgeries, and analysis at my expense, and maybe even my cat's life. How does a cat go from growling, and meowing to dead over night? And what brought the need to perform 2 autopsies that were not authorized as well as cremation. No one can explain this, and no diagnosis has ever actually been given to me. Please do not ever take your animals to this facility, something is not right here at all. My cat was my world, had the best personality but, we all think it's funny that the Vet complained he growled at her Tuesday, and was dead on Wed. Cremation is also a convenient excuse to cover up the poison of Euthenization.

I paid for additional tests and X-rays to make sure our dog was able to withstand the removal of the growth. The vet kept him under anesthesia for AN HOUR! A 12 year old dog. When I picked him up, there were dozens of staples that she wrote down were"self absorbable sutures and nothing needed to be done." My dear dog succumbed to the effects of the anesthesia on his liver 2 days later. When I called with concerns - they only returned my calls AFTER business hours - so there was nothing I could do but wait. When I reminded them that I had repeatedly told them NOT to perform the surgery if he could not survive it ~ they told me I knew the "risks" and were rather curt about the whole thing. Neither the vet nor the woman in charge of billing returned my calls (I'm still waiting - 4 weeks later!) The cost over losing my dog? Over ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. (A fee I would have gladly paid if my dog were alive and healthy) I would NOT recommend this vet to ANYONE who wants to keep their pet. This vet DID NOT listen to me or follow my directives. After a litany of tests (totaling over $1200) the clinic failed to recognize the results from one of these test that indicated pancreatitis. As a result of this oversight, the clinic recommended another series of tests costing extra money. Of course, the vomiting hadn't stopped for another two weeks which almost killed my 11 yr old Lhasa Apso. Finally I decided to go to my own vet (who had been out of town over the holidays) and he read the initial tests and was shocked that they hadn't notice the obvious results indicating pancreatitis. After one short treatment, my dog recovered and is now back to normal. Not only did this clinic miss the diagnoses, but they almost allowed my dog to die and cost me an extra $1000. I managed to get some of the money back but only after many denials and heated arguments. I wouldn't go to this clinic again even if they were the only one available.

AND, every time I bring my indoor cat in for a checkup or vaccination, it brings something home with it... usually just fleas (for which they overcharge products by at least 4x going internet rate). This time, however, he came back with some sort of nasty skin infection that is causing his tail to bleed and he is in serious pain. The vet will charge $185.00 for the privilege of looking at him again, plus whatever giant markup they will charge for the medication to treat the infection they gave him in the first place. Sweet racket, but the animals are just pawns they pretend to care about because they make more money that way. Shop around, they are FAR from the best option.

This vet blatantly lied to me about the results of the surgery, that he had been unsuccessful in the surgical procedure, he is unethical and deceitful and has shown absolutely no remorse whatsoever for his actions even with the overwhelming evidence against him proving his gross negligence. Pet owners beware of this veterinarian

He was MORE than accommodating when I lived outside of his normal "rounds" area and came to treat my two horses. He works with you if you have a financial situation and always is out when he says he is coming. He saved my horse from colic on more than one occasion! I could not recommend a more qualified, more trustworthy vet for you to use for your beloved equine!

Comments: Blue Cross twice me charged for appointments when major obvious aliments were overlooked or not "noticed" - resulting in a second appointment for reassessment. Seemed more interested to quickly diagnosis after a physical and checking of vitals done at record speed versus listen to what I had observed or noticed in my pet. Little explaination provided to support diagnosis, and discouraged me from asking my own questions. Long wait times. Building in disrepair. Staff very sassy. Vets are fat.

Comments: I brought my dog here to Dr. Lackey and spent 900.00 and being a single parent that is a lot of money to fork out but for a family pet we considered a member as well it was worth it. After seeing him they said he was diabetic and I got the supplies. I called Elk Neck to get instructions for giving him the insulin and they told me I hed to come in to be shown....when I explianed I did not have the money to bring him for a visit...they said it would be 125.00 and that is all they would be able to do for me and my beloved dog. My dog ended up passing before I could come up with the money. Dr. Lackey is only concerned about money and not the well being of the animals she treats poorly. I would never bring my animals to her let alone a bug.

Vet FirstName: Marc

Rating:
Comments: Dr. Marc Katz was found in violation of the Veterinary Practice Act by the Maryland Veterinary Board, Docket # 05-005, in February 2006. This is a matter of public record and can be verified with the Attorney General's office. Dr. Katz left my diabetic cat, who was his patient, in the care of his son -- a young man with no formal veterinary training, who was not a licensed veterinary technician, and who was allowed to give insulin injections to my cat with NO supervision. According to their erstwhile admissions, his son picked up the wrong syringe to give my cat his insulin, resuling in a HUGE overdose -- 30 units of insulin (instead of the 3 he was supposed to get). Then, my poor Toonces subsequently went into severe hypoglycemic seizures, which according to the records of the hospital that cared for him afterwards, were due to a huge insulin overdose given by Dr. Katz son. For more on this story, see the Toonces Project at http://www.thetooncesproject.com. The state document disciplining Katz is also there. Dr. Katz is, in my opinion, clearly irresponsible. Moreover, I believe that he lied to me in the wake of these events, and is both negligent and dishonest. In summary, I think he is DANGEROUS and unethical. There are many more trustworthy and competent vets than he. Why put your pets in danger? You need a vet you can trust. This is not the behavior of a trustworthy vet. This hospital claims to be under new management, but the fact is that the new owner, Zolkiewicz, was a part owner when this happened to my cat. HOW AND WHY did he let his partner leave the patients with a TOTALLY unqualified person resulting in this tragedy? DO NOT TRUST ANY OF THE PEOPLE HERE. Your pets are depending on you to use good judgment.

Comments: In the first minute, the vet was told that the dog was a rescue, had been abused and had a very sore earache, the vet goes to grab the ear without letting the dog smell him or after petting the dog, so of course the dog snapped at him. He made the assumption that the dog was extremely aggressive and needed to be muzzled 24/7. Hmmm, first visit to vet, a past history of being hurt by people, with a very painful ear and having strangers grabbing at the ear...gee, I'd bite too. I thought vets were supposed to know that dogs will bite when in pain (the earache) or threatened (history of being abused, and stranger grabbing his painful ear)... By the way, this 2 year old dog is the most gentle dog ever, loves to be around people, is very good with children. He's never bitten before. When he doesn't want to be pet anymore, he will just back away and go lay down. No signs of aggression - dominance or fear-based.

Comments: To all who post here... I stumbled across this website while looking for something else, and I stayed to read through the posts, and through Bebemau's story. I just wanted to add my thoughts, and to let everyone know that my heart goes out to those of you that have lost beloved pets and companions, especially if you feel that the outcome could have been better, or at the very least, different than what it turned out to be. I too have been on that end, wishing "what if..." and missing my pet tremendously. Their loss is never easy, especially if it occurs before we are ready for it. When you chose a veterinarian for your pet or your horses or livestock, it should be with a variety of reasons in mind (listed in no particular order...you have to decide that): location, economics (sad, but oh so true, just keeping in mind that in many cases you do get what you pay for if you truly have to go for the budget variety), expertise, knowledge, and compassion. But most of all, it needs to be someone that you feel comfortable talking to and asking questions of. For you are paying for a service that needs to be backed by knowledge...on the part of the vet so that they can offer the proper diagnostic and treatment options and also SUCCESSFULLY relay that information in a manner that you can understand so that on your part, you have enough knowledge that you can make the best decision possible for you, your pet, and (unfortunately) for your pocketbook. The best vets will ALWAYS do a physical exam, obtain a complete history (lots of questions directed at you), and then try to come up with a plan for diagnostic tests to help either rule in or rule out possible causes. They should explain what the tests are for (ruling in or out whatever), and what they hope to find out from them. And in many cases, normal results are found...which is a GOOD thing! Be advised that in many cases, a true cause for the problem is not immediately determined, and in a few instances, may never be determined. But the vet has extensive education in piecing together the physical exam, the history, the clinical signs and symptoms that the animal is showing, along with the results of the diagnostic tests that are done, and he (or she) will then put together a treatment plan (either medical or surgical, depending on what the situation warrants). The vet SHOULD offer you the "Gold Standard" treatment option first, the one that will give the most bang for the buck (and admittedly, it may be a lot of bucks). Always ask them to explain their reasoning behind what they are offering. If for personal and financial reasons you can't go with the "Gold Standard" package, by all means, don't just pack up your pet and go, ask what the minimum is that they can do diagnostically and still hopefully, direct them to the right diagnosis. And go from there. Remember to discuss treatment options as well. Competent vets that are confident in their skills and their knowledge will work with you. If they refuse treatment based on the all or nothing approach and you can't afford the all, then ask them to refer you to someone else and to make the referral call right then so that you hopefully won't have to delay treatment any longer than necessary for your pet. And ALWAYS ask for a written estimate of what is going to be done diagnostically and treatment wise BEFORE anything beyond the physical exam and history are obtained. This way there will be no hidden financial shocks when you get ready to pay, and if you need to discuss payment options, this is also the time to do it AND get those options in writing as well. And if you have to do treatments on your pet at home, then make sure to have it all detailed out in writing so that you have something to refer back to (no one remembers everything that is said at the doctor's office, we are usually too stressed, and/or distracted by our pets, family members, etc. to catch it all), and a number to call if you have any questions, including after regular business hours (that number could be an after hours emergency service or emergency hospital instead of your regular veterinarian, but they should still be able to answer your questions). And always ask for possible side effects to watch for with any medications you have to give or with any treatments that you are asked to do (these should be mentioned, but in case they are not...ASK!). How do I know all of this? Well, I am a veterinarian and I believe that all vets have a moral and ethical obligation to do no harm and to do the best that we can (I believe that is called our Veterinary Oath!)...and if we don't know something...we shouldn't be afraid to state that either, heck, we are only human after all. Thank you. NC, DVM All creatures great and small, the lord god made them all!

I did not sign or want a myleogram and I did not sign for the surgery, 43 days later after we tried to get him to stand and walk again we had to put him down. I also told the vet if there was more then one disc that he wasn't to do surgery, he did not even listen to me only did his own thing. Our dog walked into the Care Cente in Calgary Ab was treated very badly and ended up never walking again. He was only five and one half years old. I was never able to get the myleogram or the surgicial report to this day. We know that lots went wrong and are wondering why in Canada Vets don't have to be held responsible for what they do. Most of the staff and the two drs. we did meet were not very nice people, Dr. Connery states now that he told me of different treatments he could do, NOT TRUE, he only told me and my daugther that surgery was the only way for Tzar. This whole mess has left a big whole in my heart and the saddest thing is what he did to my big kool dog who would still be here if he just wasn't able to get away with doing his own thing and no one to question him.. Not fair and it has to be stopped, I need help with this one, need to know of other cases in AB with the Care Cente and the fifteen other Vet places they are with. The whole Vet program is very bad there, and also the staff, I would not recommend this place to anyone or the other Associate Vet Clinics in Calgary. Very Very Bad, and sad.

The groomers are wonderfull, photography is good but what ruins it is the daycare and boarding facility. Its really disorganized and no one seems to know whats going on. I think its new employees/lack of training and poor managment. You don't get all the info you ask for and the kennel area is not atractive or cheery in the least. It doesn't smell buit always looks dirty because of the cement and rubber materials used. The daycare area is ok but has pea gravel inside?! and the outdoor area is the spot where they used to have there dumpster. Don't expect fast and easy service, the computers seem to overwhelm the staff, I guess they are more complicated then a kennel needs and it seems everyone who knew what was going on quit! No wonder he doesn't report to the authorities, as required by law! I have it on the highest authority that, left alone in his care, horses are abused. He has an anger management issue. Steer clear of this man at all costs.

I asked if I would be charged and his response was, "Uh, yeah, I get paid for my time. That's how it works."

Comments: Ask any local and they'll tell you that Basin Run is highly overpriced. When I moved to the area I took my cat there and learned the hard way. Cost aside, they are an OK vet. Service is so-so but they tend to lean heavily on students who are learning to be vet assistants. Expect most of your face time to be with them rather than with an actual professional. Also, expect to be shuttled out as if at a fast food restaurant. Knowing full well that I was being charged the flat $52.50 for the 3 minutes I usually got at my appointments I always tried to ask questions and was given short answers while they walked out the door. You are much better off looking elsewhere. You can find the same or better service for a much more reasonable price at several other nearby vets.

It took me about 6 months of seeing what he did for our rescue dogs before I moved my own dogs to his care. He saved my one dog's life from Pyometra...it was a very complicated surgery. He has done ACL surgeries on 2 of my dogs. You can't tell today that they ever had surgery on their knees. He has done complicated ear ablation surgeries on some of our cockers. I could not have been happier with the treatment we received nor with the cost of the services. Yes, veterinarians should be in the field of veterinary medicine because they care for animals but they also need to charge for their services. Having worked in the racehorse industry for several years I know that vets and farriers often get stiffed when people cannot pay their bills. I do not think the stories listed below sound unreasonable. I will definitely take my horse back to Dr. Brauer and/or the other vets at Chino Valley Equine Hospital in the future.

For anyone who does not know what FHO surgery is, the ball joint and part of her bone in her hind leg was taken out. I have also brought strays to Dr. Rahn that have been injured beyond repair and have seen him shed a tear upon thier death. He responds day or night to any need whether it's a beloved family pet or a stray found behind a garbage dumpster. He is spearheading a Humane Society in Dodge County and has raised awareness of the need to spay and neuter animals. His staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and I believe that's a direct reflection of thier employer. Dr. Brauer was very patronizing and did not seem to care much about my horse. All he cared about was getting paid. After my horse passed away I was in her stall stall, sitting with her and the staff came to ask me to pay the remaining balance. My mare was not even cold.... She died from pneumonia a disease where the fatality rate is 5%. I still havent heard the results on the culture they had to send to Davis. I am sure if I ask for the results they will charge me for it.... If you want your horse to live do not take it to Dr. Brauer at Chino Valley Hospital.

I had hoped that he would grow and learn. It didn't happen. I have had a horse with metabolic problems and laminitis for the past 2 1/2 years and he has never told me anything that is correct or helped me in any way to manage the horse. He is a dumb ass. I have to consult with a vet in another state to get the answers and help me with my horse. In other words, I have to pay 2 vets, one to take the x-rays and venograms and one to diagnose them, because he couldn't diagnose a pimple. In 6 years I have only been able to get him once on the weekend when I have an emergency. He is a 4 day a week vet. The only thing he is good at is giving me a big bill.

Comments: This is a good clinic. They have always demostrated a real concern and care for pets, and most importantly to me, they are always honest with me about my pet's condition. They do not sugar coat the facts, or try to run up unneccessary charges. They have usually tried to work me in the schedule in and emergency for a small extra fee. Highly recommmended.. They have made diagnoses in my pets that others have missed or ignored. Drive a few extra miles to see these people. They are worth it.

Comments: This clinic is OK for routine care. I do not recommend it for sick care, especially for elderly pets. Two times they have either ignored or missed a diagnosis. Most recently was a couple of weeks ago when I took my dog in because she was limping and I thought she seemed to be in pain. My dog was a Lab mix, 12.5 years old, and weighed 97 pounds. They gave her three vaccines; rabies, distemper and bordatella, and diagnosed Lyme's disease. They prescribed an antibiotic. I called back and asked them about my dog's pain and they acted annoyed. They wanted to give her the usual nsaids. I told them that did not seem to help her anymore. They ignored me. A week later my dog stopped walking or eating. I took her to another vet for a second opinion and they told me that my dog had cancer and was in distress. I decided on euthanasia. There was nothing ahead for her but a pain. If you are the kind of person who does not want to extend your pets poor quality of life, I would not recommend that you go to this clinic, because they seem to believe in keeping them alive and suffering at any cost. That was my experience. IMO, drive a few miles out of town and get a better vet. There is a good one in Havre de Grace about 10 miles away.

Comments: After being a client here for several years with two cats, I was dropped from the practice after I failed to return x-rays that I had checked out. I checked out the x-rays because the Doctor could not succesfully diagnose my cat's limp. My cat had patellar luxation which required major surgery at a specialist. When I wanted to continue with Dr. Iberg for routine vaccinations and helath care, they refused me as I had not returned the x-rays. For many months they failed to inform me that I was dropped as I client and now my cat is past due for vaccination. I would have appreciated a little understanding that my cat was having to undergo major surgery and that circumstances were somewhat extenuating. On top of all this, Dr. Iberg continues to advertise for a boarding kennel (best Little Cathouse in Pasadena) that my cat returned from with fleas and a broken arm!! I informed them of this and said they really should not refer to them but they continue to do so.

Comments: I can only speak for the feline side of how Dr Tugend handles his practice but I do know that he is a completely unconcerned, disconnected, uninformed doctor of veterinary medicine. When a cat needs a blood transfusion it is customary for the vet to have several options as to where to get the blood. My cat had a rare blood type and the doctor said "it will take too long to have this type of blood shipped" and that he "couldn't find anywhere near San Diego with B blood". Firstly I'd like to say... BULL SHIT! I went home and typed in animal blood bank in google and found numerous facilities with B blood that were able to OVERNIGHT packets of blood. Why is it that an "educated" man who deals with situations like this all day can't find a simple blood bank when someone that knows nothing on the subject can go and find blood with no problem? When my kitties passed away he didn't even bother to call me even though I had spend thousands of dollars in his office. I refuse to go back to this vet. He is incompetent and genuinely an asshole. Pardon my language, but he infuriates me to no end. There are more reasons as to why I don't recommend this vet but it makes me too upset to type it all out! If you live in San Diego, I recommend finding ANY vet other than Dr. Tugend's office.

Comments: Dr. Cameau is outstanding as an equine vet. He provided our horses with outstanding medical care and he exemplified the care, concern, and dedication to animals that I would expect from every vet. Sadly, far too few are actually interested or caring of the the animals they are competent to provide care for. Dr. Cameau was the complete package when it came to a vet. I left my horses in his care knowning they were going to be in the best possible hands.

Comments: The care provided at this emergency clinic was excellent, however the browbeating and strategies used for "collecting" money were outrageous. We were told when we arrived we would need to leave a deposit and they took the mare and foal into care. It was after 7:00 PM, I was able to provide them with $1000 at the moment and could provide a check then or cash payment the next day. They refused the check because it was a new account, even though I could show them on-line that the money was IN the account, and they harrassed myself, my husband, and the owner of our mare's foal well into the night for more money, despite the fact that all the banks were closed and we told them we couldn't do anything until the banks opened. The final straw for me was that they called the foal's owner, a nurse, working night shift repeatedly (I left at 10 and found out later he continued until 11:30 at night) finally telling her that if she didn't get payment in by morning they would stop caring for the foal. They had told me the same. This was a baby they were providing fluids to intraveneously and tube feeding hourly. Basically they told this poor woman to cough up the money or your baby dies and we'll stand by and watch it happen. I've never expected such heartless behavior from any vet. The next morning, realizing that we couldn't possibly keep our horses there without losing them because the bill was growing so rapidly (by the time we left our horses had been at the facility for about 17 hours and the bill was almost $2500 for care that included some basic tests (which three days later now--we still do not have the results for), tube feeding the baby hourly, two lavages on my mare, shots for mare and foal, and providing fluids intraveneously to the baby. They made it clear that if we couldn't pay, they would keep our horses and that no payment arrangements could be made so we made arrangements to move them closer to the foal's owner. We called at 10 AM and asked for a payoff amount as of noon. They didn't call with an amount until about 11 AM. However, when we got there with the money, they had chosen to do more proceedures on my mare and the foal, thus raising the bill by another $400. If we had only had the amount we had been told, they would have been able to hold our horses even longer, thus upping the bill even further. In my opinnion, this was the intent, since we had been clear on the phone that we needed the full amount as of noon because we were coming to pick them up. In addition to all of this, when we got the mare and foal where we were going, the vet was really upset that they had pulled the foal's feeding tube and catheter. Apparently, instead of a gruelling trip where we pulled over every half hour and struggled to get the baby to nurse and then had to bottle feed the baby, squirt by squirt into her mouth because she wouldn't suckle the bottle, the feeding tube could have been left in place so that we could have been sure to get enough milk into the baby and done so without having to take our safety measures apart every time we stopped. Since the primary concern for the foal was to get enough fluids and mare's milk into her, the risk of leaving the tube in was actually secondary. I have to say that the interns were incredible and every one of them seemed to appreciate and care about horses, but the "surgeon," who was responsible was a nightmare for anyone going through an emergency with their horses. In the future, this clinic will be the last resort for me. Would I take my horses there again? If I had no other reasonable choice, of course. But I'd pull them out as soon as I could and provide alternate care. Oh ... and the foal that they were sure would require 5 or more intensive care days at a cost of $5000-$6000 (while my mare, needing 2 lavages and shots daily was clicking up at over $1000 per day) was able to nurse herself through that night and only required minimal care during the normal equine clinic hours at Bakersfield Equine Hospital, where the Dr. Cameau took care of our horses first, spent part of his personal lunch time hanging out with our mare and foal, laughing and enjoying Belle's first day of normal foal play and curiosity. It was a harrowing trip, but worth every moment to have my horses receiving not only excellent care, but the concern of an outstanding vet.

Comments: Well, I thought I wouldnt go wrong with this clinic since it is named "The Cat Clinic". The lady vet there was the one who gave Bebe the pain killing patch. Like I have mentioned, Bebe was not really in pain and his weak body was not strong enough for these patches. Cant blame it all on them, I just wish she would have warned me before putting it on.
